ART IN MOTION
Elizabeth has studied various dance styles throughout her life, but found her true passion, Belly Dance, in 2001.
pastAlthough her interest in the arts started at an early age, through drawing, painting, photography, and dance, she discovered Middle Eastern dance purely by chance. After attending a few SCA events - the drumming, the dance, the campfire, the acceptance of all, the freedom and joy of movement - she was hooked! Then one day, while performing with some of those same SCA dancers in Mandeville, LA, (many, many, years ago) at Kan Zaman restaurant, she meet some of the Devyani dancers - the make-up, costumes, movements, and presence of the dancers drew her in. After speaking with Lisa (one of Devyani’s members) and being invited to class, she dove into the tribal style belly dance scene. Elizabeth began training in New Orleans under Megha Gavin, director of Devyani, a certified teacher and partner with Carolena Nericcio of FatChanceBellyDance®, in the American Tribal Style® (ATS®) format. Elizabeth performed with Devyani’s student troupe until Megha left New Orleans in September of 2003.

presentHaving finished college with her Bachelor’s in Psychology and her Master’s in Business Administration 2002, Elizabeth took a leave from dance to focus on her career. But eventually, she found her way back! Elizabeth has since trained with local teachers and visiting master performers and instructors, as well as traveling to train with many extraordinary instructors including Moria Chappell, Donna Mejia, Tamalyn Dallal, and Lacey Sanchez. In 2015 she began Rachel Brice's 8 Elements training program, and has received her 8 Elements Practitioner Certification.
Elizabeth continues to explore different styles and techniques, developing and evolving her own style along the way. She is honored to share her knowledge teaching weekly classes in Fundamentals, Combinations, and Choreographies. In December 2019, she completed her training and is now a Certified Datura Style instructor. |
futureNot only does she continue pursuing knowledge and instruction, she is dedicated to the safe practice of belly dance, and strives to always reinforce the goal of listening to, and taking care of yourself.
